From the desk of Tim Doyle-
Back in February of 2012 I had my first solo art show at SpokeArt’s gallery in San Fransisco. The show was rather well received, and by the end of the show- just about everything was sold out. SpokeArt’s owner- Ken Harman, was kind enough to fly me and my father out for the opening. (My wife would have come, but our daughter was only 4 months old at that point- and babies don’t party as much as they should.) The reception was well attended, a lot of fun people came out and a great time was had.
My pitch for UnReal Estate last year was this-
“Unreal Estate” is a collection of locations that many of us know and have been to on a weekly basis at times, but we can never actually visit. These places are in our memories- transmitted and entrenched there through a cathode-ray tube. Some of us have been going to these places for decades- some of these places were taken from us, way too soon.”- Me, one year ago.
The next day, after the on-line drop, Ken took us out to dinner and said the scariest words I’ve heard in a while- “So, next year- Unreal Estate 2, right?” Needle drop. Scratch sound. Sad Trombone.
Not because I thought it was a bad idea- no- it was because the first show was a TON OF WORK and almost did me in the first time through. And would people LIKE the new stuff a year from then? That’s the problem with sequels- it’s always going to be compared to the original. Was I going to do a “Godfather 2″ or was I going to do a ‘The Two Jakes”? I had a list of prints from shows I WANTED to get to but didn’t have the time originally, and a list of other locations from shows that I had already done prints for. So the ideas were there… I agreed, shook his smooth yet masculine hand, and dove right in.

Yesterday, our country elected our President to a new term in the White House, and we also passed several important new measures- like Marriage Equality in 4 new states, and Legalized Pot in Colorado and Washington.
And today, the city of Austin and the readers of the AUSTIN CHRONICLE have made an even more important decision- they’ve voted Nakatomi Founder, Tim Doyle as the BEST VISUAL ARTIST in Austin for the second year in a row!
You can read the blurb about the win HERE.
Never one to bask in the glow of victory, or pose in a ludicrous fashion for photographs celebrating his triumph, Tim Doyle promises to continue his mission of awesome, affordable art for everyone. His opponents ran a fair campaign, only going negative towards the end- with accusations of doping and other art-performance drugs being hastily debunked. Tim Doyle swears his retribution will be swift and bloody, yet fair.
For the next 24 hours on the Nakatomi site- (ending at Midnight Central Time 11/9/12), we’re offering 20% off all orders for Doyle prints by using the discount code DOYLE (it’s in all caps, people) when you check out!
Discount applies to all product in the TIM DOYLE section of the Nakatomi store HERE!

Nakatomi artist, Tim Doyle, was contacted by The Obama Store to produce a limited edition art print in relation to the Obama 2012 campaign! The Obama Store is located here in Austin, Texas- inside the Texas Democratic National Committee headquarters. The Obama Store is headed by former Texas State Representative, Glen Maxey- a fierce supporter of several causes near and dear to us here at Nakatomi, including pro-LGBT legislation and children’s health initiatives. We were very honored to partner with them on this project.
